Why do I get the error when running WindSim: Error occurred when starting process: The system cannot find the file specified?

The antivirus software may be preventing the WindSim program from running properly. Try reinstalling WindSim when the antivirus is temparily turned off. To prevent the antivirus software from interfering with WindSim, it is important to exclude the following folders from real-time scanning:

• C:\Program Files\WindSim

• C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\WindSim Projects

• C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\WindSim

There can be several reasons why an antivirus blocks WindSim, that is why we recommend to add the folders to the exclude list.

  1. As antivirus software evolves, it has become more stringent over time. Originally, there were no issues with antivirus programs, but due to stricter policies, some antivirus software now mistakenly categorizes WindSim as "malware."
  2. Our executables are safeguarded using Sentinel Protection software, which envelops the original .exe file in a security layer. This process involves modifying, encrypting, and securing the original .exe, a method that some antivirus software may not approve of. Despite reaching out to our security vendor for assistance, they are unable to intervene as the strictness lies within the antivirus companies themselves.
  3. Something else we do in WindSim is that the main WindSim.exe executable, calls other executables to do some subtasks (like terrain.exe, windfields.exe etc), this is also something that some antivirus do not like, but for us to change this would be a mayor redesign of WindSim software.

Adding the folders to the exclude list is a simple workaround.
