Explains which data sources used by the map module
To estimate the wind conditions at a site WindSim needs to different dataset to describe the terrain at the area: The elevation, describing the height of the terrain and the roughness, describing the how easily the air will flow over the terrain.Elevation:
We use the World Elevation Terrain service from ESRI.
This dynamic World Elevation Terrain service from ESRI provides numeric values representing ground surface heights, based on a digital terrain model (DTM). The ground heights are based on multiple sources. Heights are orthometric (sea level = 0), and water bodies that are above sea level have approximated nominal water heights.
To see which source is used at the selected project site consult the following table:

Map source data
To check the resolution of the elevation map at the desired location it is advisable to use the interactive map. Scroll to the wanted area an right click to see which source and resolution which is used at the site.
Roughness:
For roughness we provide 2 possibilities: To change which dataset is currently used change the layer on the right tab.
- The Corine Land Cover 2018 Roughness(Europe)
- Sentinel-2 Roughness(Global)
