Automatic model height setting failed (Error No. 1979) in Terrain module. Why?

Q: I tried using the Global Mapper (GM) software to create an elevation/roughness .gws file for WindSim. Unfortunately, when running the map in the terrain module of WindSim, it gives error messages:

“ERROR ...................
in: find_cfd_height_automatic
Automatic height setting failed
after adjustment number:
30001
Error no.: 1979
EXIT .................... "

A: The issue with setting the model height may arise due to significant variations in terrain elevation. Negative values in the elevation data of the .gws file, typically found along the terrain border after conversion using Global Mapper, could be the cause. To address this problem, you have two options:

1. Adjust the terrain extension in Terrain properties to cut off areas with negative elevation.

2. Open the .gws file in [project folder]\dtm using notepad++, and replace negative values with appropriate elevations.
